Openness is the Essence of Innovation

Openness is the Essence of Innovation
BPW has originated countless ideas by actively listening with an open mind - when talking to customers and, as in this case, in internal conversations.

How will we transport the future?

Transport entails more than travelling from A to B. BPW regards transport and logistics as a combination of two interdependent process chains and ecosystems. As such, our industry is predestined to embrace digital innovations, solutions and services, and is receptive to new ways to creating value.

Openness is the Essence of Innovation

EVERYTHING IS INTERCONNECTED.

Whether we look at the transport and logistics market as a whole, forensically examine trailer running gear, or think about processes in the spare parts supply business, or the interaction between vehicle manufacturers and operators – complex technical and economic interdependencies are to be found everywhere. Equally abundant therefore are precious opportunities to optimise valueadded and develop entirely new, forward-looking business models.

In order to seize these opportunities, BPW Group has placed an openness towards innovation at the core of its strategy and corporate culture. In recent years, open and constructive talks with our customers, partners and employees have thus spawned innovative solutions and services that offer v ehicle manufacturers and operators measurable economic benefits.

An interesting example of this systematic and practical approach is provided by our latest generation of running gear. We applied the modular design principle to construct an end-to-end digitised system. It not only paves the way for a leaner approach to configuring, designing and building trailers, but also gives vehicle manufacturers greater flexibility and enables them significantly to reduce both weight and costs. From the moment the purchase order is placed, the running gear is assigned a unique and inalienable genetic code that remains with it from manufacture through to in-service maintenance. Throughout the entire service life, this digital DNA gives assured access to highly efficient processes and intelligent support services. A patented laser welding technique substantially lowers the weight of the running gear, while demonstrating BPW’s digital approach to innovation and its ability to rethink metalworking traditions.

In this annual report you will find many other examples of how BPW Group interprets and implements innovation as a systematic process – from development and the internet of transport to service in the aftermarket. For all their diversity, the examples reflect a consistent mindset – an openness towards both fresh ideas and new methods and technologies, and above all an endeavour to see things from our customers’ perspective. All of the solutions highlighted in this annual report were created in consultation with our customers.

OUR DESIRE TO LOOK AT TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF OUR CUSTOMERS AND PARTNERS IS ALSO REFLECTED IN THE ANNUAL REPORT ITSELF.

We have invited successful international entrepreneurs who work with BPW Group solutions day in, day out – or have contributed to the design of key innovations – to have their say in the report as well.
